I have a thread on my install experience with the Bimmertech retrofit in the connected sub forum here. I also like the flexibility of displaying stuff which BMW doesn't support natively or probably never will. I don't have to worry about firmware updates and the other mess of getting proper integration with iDrive. If you’re experiencing this issue, make sure to add your +VOTE and follow the instructions in the Status Update below. It's a costly solution to go with this option but I couldn't be happier with it. 259 Hey everyone, We're receiving reports from Spotify users on iOS devices, that the Spotify app is not showing in the BMW ConnectedDrive menu. While I don't stream music through online services, I have tested other sources such as video stored on my phone to testing Skype and Slingbox. But I can set it to display the trip computer for example. In this case, I have it set to display what is playing audio wise. 3) Then plug your iPhone into the USB port in your car to connect your iPhone to your car. It runs on the internal Sim card and requires a BMW connected drive subscription. It had the same limitation The build in spotify app runs without any phones needs to be in the car. 2) Select your car then tap Customize to add Spotify to show on CarPlay’s home screen. Then it sounds like its the same as the idrive 7 app. I have the setup configured for picture in picture where the main screen shows the video of my smart phone and the smaller screen on the right displays what ever I choose from iDrive. 1) Go to Settings > General on your iPhone, then tap CarPlay. Once my smart phone is paired up with SmartView, I hold down the Menu button on the iDrive controller panel and the nav screen switches over to display the video output of my smart phone. As an example, I use Waze and Google Maps all the time. What this system will allow you to do is stream video AND audio through WiFi into the car's system on both the nav screen and audio system. Spotify has dropped support for the Apps 4 Automotive (A4A) technology which allowed the Android device to talk to the iDrive 6 system. Spotify then automatically opens a Driving Safety Dismiss Message on the phone which must be clicked before Spotify lets you play or do anything, including controlling Spotify through the car. You might be able to get them to sell just the multimedia box without the rear view camera if you're just interested in doing only the smart phone integration. Hi, When connecting Spotify to my BMW iDrive (iPhone 7) via USB or Bluetooth, the BMW app automatically launches Spotify. What will work 100% but again will require additional hardware and a pain in the butt install is the Bimmertech Rear View Camera retrofit and their SmartView module. I've never been able to get any of my Android phones (S5 or S6) to work with the BMW connected apps.
